Welcome to Unity of Kenosha & Racine! At Unity, we recognize that each and every one of us is a beloved expression of God. We also know that this is eternally and unconditionally true.

Our teachings are positive, practical, and they reflect a progressive approach to Christianity. Unity is nondenominational, non-dogmatic, and presents an enlightened Christianity which embraces the universal truths of other religions.

Our emphasis is not upon sin, but upon a path of spiritual awakening which is designed to help all people recognize their inherent goodness and unlimited spiritual potential. Through this ongoing awakening, we move from the belief that we are separate from God into the conscious understanding that we are one with God, with each other, and with all of the Good that God is.

For over 120 years Unity has been presenting its positive and uplifting message. As a result, the lives of untold numbers of people have been transformed. You see, Unity does more than talk about its beliefs and teachings; it encourages its students to put them into practice and live them. Through the application of our teachings, positive results are received. Unity is a healing, prospering, and harmonizing movement that produces results; that is why we term it practical Christianity.

The Unity Movement was founded by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore. Many reverses had come to the Fillmore family, and they were considering leaving Kansas City, Missouri, and moving back to Colorado for the benefit of Mrs. Fillmore's health. One evening, in the spring of 1886, she attended a lecture and received a divine revelation. As she walked from the hall, one thought repeated itself over and over in her mind:

“I am a child of God and therefore I do not inherit sickness.”

In one hour Myrtle Fillmore's whole outlook was changed. The simple idea that she was a beloved child of God and that God's will for her was perfect life and wholeness filled her mind and possessed her being. Her healing began at once.

Soon her friends and neighbors began to come to her for help and were healed when she directed them to the source of all healing, the Spirit of God. Charles Fillmore became interested in this new approach to God, and soon both husband and wife were devoting their entire time to showing people the way to health, prosperity, and happiness through the Christ Spirit, which dwells within each person.

From this humble beginning grew the worldwide movement known as Unity. The story of the growth of Unity is the story of faith-the faith of a man and a woman who followed divine guidance with singleness of purpose and consecration of mind and heart.

At first, the Unity work was located in a downtown office building in Kansas City, Missouri. Later, it was moved to a cottage on McGee Street, where the small Unity tracts were printed in the kitchen. Then Unity moved to new buildings at 917 Tracy Avenue. I n the next several years more buildings were added, until almost the entire block from Ninth to Tenth Street belonged to Unity School.

In 1949, Unity headquarters were again moved-this time to Unity Farm, later incorporated as Unity Village. This move represented the fulfillment of a dream that had been cherished for many years.
