The History
The Unity Movement was founded by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore. Many reverses had come to the Fillmore family, and they were considering leaving Kansas City, Missouri, and moving back to Colorado for the benefit of Mrs. Fillmore's health. One evening, in the spring of 1886, she attended a lecture and received a divine revelation. As she walked from the hall, one thought repeated itself over and over in her mind:
“I am a child of God and therefore I do not inherit sickness.”
In one hour Myrtle Fillmore's whole outlook was changed. The simple idea that she was a beloved child of God and that God's will for her was perfect life and wholeness filled her mind and possessed her being. Her healing began at once.
Soon her friends and neighbors began to come to her for help and were healed when she directed them to the source of all healing, the Spirit of God. Charles Fillmore became interested in this new approach to God, and soon both husband and wife were devoting their entire time to showing people the way to health, prosperity, and happiness through the Christ Spirit, which dwells within each person.
From this humble beginning grew the worldwide movement known as Unity. The story of the growth of Unity is the story of faith-the faith of a man and a woman who followed divine guidance with singleness of purpose and consecration of mind and heart.

Our Principles
The five basic ideas that make up the Unity belief system are:
1) God is the source and creator of all. There is no other enduring power. God is good and present everywhere.
2) We are spiritual beings, created in God's image. The spirit of God lives within each person; therefore, all people are inherently good.
3) We create our life experiences through our way of thinking.
4) There is power in affirmative prayer, which we believe increases our connection to God.
5) Knowledge of these spiritual principles is not enough. We must live them.
Unity Village
In 1919 Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, founders of the Unity spiritual movement, bought 58 acres of land about 15 miles from downtown Kansas City, Mo. Originally intended as a weekend and vacation getaway for Unity workers, the area grew into Unity Farm and became nationally known for its orchards and apple products. In 1953 the farm was incorporated as a Missouri municipality—Unity Village. Today, the 1,400-acre property serves as the headquarters of Unity’s worldwide ministry of publishing, prayer and education. Unity Village’s distinctive English Cotswold and Italian architecture was designed in the 1920s by Rickert Fillmore, a son of the founders.
